Natural Language text Processing Technology

Program name: SYNTCHECK

Natural language spell-checking is fundamental in all spheres of Text Processing. People make errors unintentionally or because they do not know well the language. Our spell-checkers find these errors and suggest corrections (older version) or correct the errors automatically (new version). Our older version, for Windows 16 and 32 Bit, verifies the correct use of Prepositions. Displays statistics of the orthographical and of the grammatical (concord, usage, verb related) errors. Displays the total number of errors, their percentage and the number of words and sentences spell-checked. Suggests corrections for the grammatical errors. Collects the unknown words in the text. This version has a menu and can process a whole file.
Our newer version, for Windows 32 and 64 Bit, is a console application and can process only direct user input. This version simplifies the text, by replacing the synonyms with more widely used synonym or concept, in order to help language learners understand the meaning of the text. The English version for Windows 64 Bit corrects most orthographical and grammatical errors automatically. The program can correct errors, based on meaning, in case there are no orthographical or grammatical errors to correct. The software program is an orthographical and grammatical spell checker. The program does not offer suggestions, it finds itself the error and corrects it automatically, without asking you. For example, it can correct such sentence as "Ann is married with John" (a typical error most Germans make) and replace it with "Ann is married to John".
Characteristic features of our German spell-checker:
- Will automatically correct misspelled words written with a low-case letter instead of upper-case letter (baum -> Baum).
- Will recognize the difference between "aufheben -Aufheben", etc.
- Will automatically correct misspelled words containing Umlaut (Atemubung -> Atemübung).
- Will correct words written with a single letter where double letter is required.
- Will look for agreement in number between two words within the sentence and will automatically correct the word (s) not agreeing in number (zwei Frau -> zwei Frauen). Therefore, will also correct all irregular nouns, such as "Loch -> Löcher", "Hammer - Hämmer", "Apfel -> Äpfel", "Haus -> Häuser", etc., if used in singular instead in plural.
- Will look for agreement between an article and a noun and will automatically correct the word(s) not agreeing in gender and case. For example "das Mann -> der Mann", "die Kind -> das Kind or die Kinder (if in plural), etc., depending on context and case. Will correct the wrong use of the auxiliary verbs "sein" and "haben" with the past participle.

Spell-checking is Language specific.

Our spell-checkers are tailored to find and correct the errors made in a particular language. Every language has its own words, its own grammar and spelling norms. The spelling norms are needed for clarity of expression.

SEMCOR was developed to correct automatically errors based on meaning, when the word is spelled correctly, but its contextual meaning is incorrect, for example homophones and homographs. This is very important for voice-to-voice Machine Translation, because Natural Language is full of homophones - words that sound the same, but have different meaning in context, for example bred - bread, knight - night, cellar - seller, meat - meet, made - maid, plate - plait, death - deaf, shone - shown, etc., for instance, in sentences such as
The mail swine.
A double bet room.
We tan in the son.
We got site of him.
He is pier of London.
